Laking’s of Louth were founded in 1908, nearly a hundred years ago. Originally the business was run through two shops in the town, and was amalgamated in the early 1980’s. This brought together the "Beef" shop from 71 Eastgate to our "Pork" shop at the present site of 33 Eastgate, Louth.
Within our shop we offer a full range of butchery goods, sourced from local farms and the local market. We also used to be a wholesale provider to the local meat trade but increased legislation proved prohibitive and this arm of the business had to close. Laking’s of Louth display traditional quality fresh beef, lamb and pork. Our beef is "hung" for at least 21 days to give the meat maturity and tenderness. Our lambs are also given a "hanging" time to give them optimum tenderness and flavour.
Our pork comes from local sources and is prepared for the shop as well as our manufacturing department. Poultry comes from Norfolk and is delivered at least twice weekly. Bacon is supplied by local and Scottish sources. We also produce our own dry cured bacon and hams. Bacon and ham joints are cut and packed on the premises throughout the week.
All our bakery products are produced in site as are the desserts and ready meals. All departments produce meat and meat products on a daily basis. We cut beef, lamb and pork to satisfy customer demand throughout the day. Our bakery bakes bread, pies, pastries and cakes throughout the day also. We try to have warm Cornish pasties and sausage rolls available for most of our opening hours. Sausages are prepared daily and contain no additives or preservatives. They are filled into natural casings. The seasoning is prepared to a recipe going back many years.
A full range of cooked meats are prepared on the premises. Hams, turkey, beef and pork are prepared daily to be boiled or roasted in ovens ready for slicing in the shop. Orders are prepared for weddings and functions on most weekends. Buffets are frequently prepared to be delivered to local businesses and educational establishments.
We are certainly a hive of activity!
